Parasaurolophus "Beside Saurolophus" Order: Ornithischia Suborder: Ornithopoda Family:Hadrosauridae |
Parasaurolophus's impressive crest contained paired nasal passages
that ran from it's nostrils to the top of the crest then back down again
to it's head. This has led scientists to surmise that it's crest
was used for vocalization to perhaps attract a mate or warn of danger.
Also, the many blood vessels and mucous membranes within the crest may have
allowed it to serve as a heat exchanger. Some scientists think that a
frill of skin may have connected Parasaurolophus's crest to its neck and
its head would have looked like this instead: - Physical Characteristics
